Fiber lasers in the power range from 1000W to 5000W are capable of welding heavier metal connections at high speed. The applications are very diversified, and include stainless steel sheets for kitchen tops, galvanized steel rear panels for flat screen LCD TVs, steel sheets for electric motor stators, structural parts such as turbocharger exhausts, stainless steel bellows, wires copper contacts, battery contacts, etc. Thicknesses up to 5 mm can be welded at speeds up to 50 cm / second. Fiber lasers in this power range are increasingly replacing other welding processes such as resistance welding (spot welding), TIG welding, MIG welding, electron beam welding, etc. With lasers at these power levels, welding speed is typically limited only by the speed of movement of the system or parts and the mechanism for feeding parts to and from the system.
